Heidi Bachram’s husband Adam Ma’anit is cousin to Tsachi Idan who was kidnapped on October 7 from his home on Kibbutz Nahal Oz. The family had been hiding in the safe room when terrorists burst in and murdered the eldest child Ma’ayan. Tsachi did not come home alive.

While that horror unfolded in Israel, Heidi and Adam were confronted by the threat from Hamas supporters in their own home in Brighton on the south coast of England. This beach town became a den of extremism and antisemitism. The small Jewish community responded by setting up a memorial to the victims of October 7 and held a public service every single night. The memorial was attacked over 50 times and completely destroyed on five occasions. This small memorial came to symbolize the wider issues facing the Jewish community in the UK. Heidi will tell us her moving story of the combined fight for Israeli family and in support of the local British Jewish community.

Heidi Bachram has a BSc in Anthropology and has worked in the area of campaigning her whole career. She has been active on antisemitism since 2015 when the Labour Party elected Jeremy Corbyn as their leader. Heidi is of Irish Iranian heritage and is married to British Israeli Adam Ma’anit. She is active on X and Substack and has written for the Jewish Chronicle, Jewish News and LBC.
