Chevrei Tzedek
Saturday Morning, May 3rd
The Mitzvot Central to Jewish Environmentalism:
Yishuv Ha'Olam (Caring for the World) and Bal Tashchit (Do Not Destroy)
At the Myerberg Center (3101 Fallstaff Road, Baltimore, MD 21209)
Saturday morning services will underscore the connection between Shabbat and creation, and will be followed by a Kiddush luncheon. The post-kiddish limud will continue the study of environmental stewardship, YISHUV OLAM ~ our covenant to care for the earth, through text. We will debate wanton and sacred destruction: How do we choose what is sacred destruction and acceptable and wanton destruction and not acceptable. We will discuss how to practically uphold the mitzvah of Bal Tashchit, using the criteria of 18 guidelines for sacred destruction.
